Big Players in Big Games
What's your memories of a massive game where a star stepped up to the plate and delivered?

All this talk of Mbappe vs Messi when in reality both really only perform vs shit opposition.

Ronaldo was a big player on the big day for sure and I suppose I can recall Gerrard on 2 occasions (one won't be discussed ta very much) and the other was to drag Liverpool to a champs league win but in modern day football we rarely see a big player turn it on when most needed or do we..furnish me with big player big game moments......

Yeah I had that in mind. 21 years ago is mental.

I also always think from a West Ham point of view that Payet vs De Gea at Old Trafford proved his world class.

The one’s that stands out to me are

Maradonna against England even though he cheated with the hand of god goal, his second goal was superb and we had no answer for him.

Paolo Rossi for Italy against Brazil was some performance too.

Steve Gerard against West Ham in the F A Cup final.

All 3 players on a different level.

Seem to remember Beckham having a couple of very close free kicks going just wide in the second half. Thought the hard work we'd done against the Germans was going to be un-done that day.

Zidane... champions league finals, World Cup final, pretty much every big game... not to mention being 1-0 down to England at euro 2004 after 90 minutes, scoring twice and winning the game.

Why he's the best ever for me. No one performed as consistently on big occasions

Feb 2013 we lost 3-2 at home to Spurs. They were driven to victory by a rampant Gareth Bale who never gave up with him adding to his opening goal to claim the winner with a classic long drive over Jussi into the net.

No wonder that RM paid a lot of money for him. Bale now a pale shadow of his former self.

The best I witness live was Roy Keane for Ireland against a star studded Dutch team. Ireland won 1-0 and thereby knocked the cock sure Dutch out of qualifying.
Ireland were down to ten men when they took the lead. As some players began to drop deep to hold on, Keane kept getting on the ball and drove the whole team forward.

Actually that reminds me when Roy Keane was absolutely brilliant away against Juventus in the Champions League. Think United were two down or something and he was outstanding in a come back.

Not to downplay our games against those cunts, but I think you might be misreading the room.

I thought of that too. He'd taken a yellow so knew he wouldn't play in the final and it didn't affect him at all, infact it seemed to spur him on even more.
